Student E-mail Transititions to GMail

Information Technology willing transititioning all of the student e-mail over to Google's famous Gmail starting on May 26, 2008.

What is GMail?

Gmail is Google's web-based email program, which provides users with over 6 gigabytes of storage, fast Google search, and powerful spam protection.

What about calendaring?

Google Calendar is a fast and simple online calendar application. It lets you see your whole schedule in context – you can easily share and connect your calendar with those of your friends, classmates, and anyone else in your school community.

 

What do I need to do?

Nothing for now. Your old email address won't change, and you'll still have all your old messages. Migration of email will begin on Monday, May 26th and may take up to a week. During this transition time, new mail will be delivered to GMail, while old mail is still accessible at gw.ashland.edu. Once we migrate your existing mail to your new Google- powered account, you’ll be able to search and access all your mail from any internet-connected computer. You will receive another email in a few weeks with more specific instructions.

What will I get?

What is my password?

Your new email password will be your student ID/Eaglecard number preceded by 'au-' For example: If your student ID/Eaglecard ID is 0012345, your new email password will be au-0012345.

FAQs:

Q: What if I already have a GMail account?

A:  If you already have a GMail account, it is okay.  You will have another account for just your Ashland University e-mail.

Q: What will happen to any of the e-mail rules that I created in GroupWise?  Will they transfer over?

A: No.  Any e-mail rules that you created in GroupWise will not transfer over to GMail.  You will have to recreate any e-mail rules again in GMail.
