Setting up Netscape Messenger 7.x to use instead of GroupWise Web access
- Launch
Netscape Messenger and select Window, then Mail & Newsgroups.

- In the new window, select File, then New.
- In
the fly-out menu select Account.

- The Account Wizard will walk you through the following steps:
- Select e-mail Account.
- Enter your name.
- Enter your e-mail address: username@ashland.edu
- From type of incoming server select IMAP.
- The name of the incoming server is gw.ashland.edu
- Enter your GroupWise username.
- Enter a name for your account.
- If your account information is correct, select the Finish button.
- If your account information is not correct, select the back button and make the necessary changes.
- Single-click on the arrow beside the name of your new account.
- When
prompted enter your GroupWise password.
- Select Mail &
Newsgroups Account Settings from the Edit menu

- Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the left hand list
- Enter 9989 in
the Port entry box

- Click OK
Setting up Outlook Express to use instead of GroupWise Web access
- Launch
Outlook Express and select Tools, then Accounts, then Mail.
- Click
on the Add button and select Mail
Steps 3-7 are part of the wizard that will
appear when you add a new mail account.
- Enter your name in the Display Name field and click Next.
- Enter your e-mail address (username@ashland.edu) in E-mail address and click Next.
- Click the down arrow next to My incoming mail server is a and select IMAP. Then type gw.ashland.edu (without the quotes) in the next two fields (Incoming and Outgoing mail server) and click Next.
- Enter your username for Account name and GroupWise password for Password and click the Remember password if you wish.
- Click Next, then Finish.
Changing Outlook Express
If you previously used Outlook Express to read SendMail messages, you can go to step 4 and change the Incoming and Outgoing mail server names from mail.ashland.edu to gw.ashland.edu and then procede to step 8.
- Launch Outlook Express and select Tools, then Accounts
- Select the Mail
tab and then highlight your AU GroupWise account

- Click on the Properties button on the right side of the window
- Click on the Servers tab
- Check the box
beside My server requires authentication

- Click on the Advanced tab
- In the entry
box beside "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)" change the 25 to 9989

- Click Apply
- Click OK
- Click Close
Changing
the SMTP Port on MAC Mail 10.2 (On Campus Only)
- From the Mail
menu select Preferences

- In the Accounts window select your e-mail account
- Click on the
Edit button

- On the Account Information Tab make sure your account type is IMAP
- Make sure your Incoming Mail Server is set to smtp.ashland.edu
- Click on the
Options button

- Set your Outgoing Mail Server to gw.ashland.edu
- Enter 9989
in the Server Port entry box

- Choose OK
- Choose OK
- Close the Accounts window
Changing the SMTP Port on MAC Mail 10.3 (On Campus Only)
- From the Mail
menu select Preferences

- In the Accounts window select your e-mail account
- Click on the
Server Settings button

- Set your Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.ashland.edu
- Enter 9989
in the Server Port entry box

- Choose OK
- Close the Accounts window
Note : Eudora and other simple e-mail readers work if you change the server setting from mail.ashland.edu to gw.ashland.edu, place a check in the box to Allow Authentication and change your Outgoing Server Port to 9989.
